First stop for the HTC crew will be the Dayton Food Bank on June 25th, where they will tour and then work on a volunteer project. Habitat for Humanity is their next stop on July 9th, where the team will build Adirondack chairs for the ReStore as a fundraiser. The group’s final visit for the summer will be Matthew 25 Ministries in Blue Ash, on July 30.
“We’re broadening our horizons and our definition of how Hannah’s Treasure Chest fits into this community by reaching beyond our walls to help other agencies,” said executive director Sarah Williams. “Our volunteers have enjoyed learning how we impact organizations like Samaritan Behavioral Health and UCDRC (Urban Child Development Resource Center) during their visits. Now it’s time to go visit them and make a different kind of impact.”
Williams began this collaboration last year when she began inviting area agencies such as the Dayton Foundation and the Food Bank to attend the organization’s monthly volunteer luncheons and talk about their missions. In 2014, Williams focused in on the agencies that partner with Hannah’s Treasure Chest to enrich the lives of the children they serve.
“Volunteering is something we in the nonprofit world provide other businesses all the time. It makes sense we could benefit from it, too,” said Catherine Myers, Development Associate with Habitat for Humanity. “And, it’s a great way to develop strong partnerships with other NPOs.”
