]]> Though the end of the school year is truly just around the corner for most of us, here at Hannah’s Treasure Chest we’re preparing for our Backpack Bonanza program in August. Coordinating the supplies needed to prepare backpacks for 150 students of varying ages in 3 counties requires a lot of planning!

This year our goal is to provide 150 students with backpacks filled with the essential items they need to start school ready to learn. We are seeking these items to fill backpacks:

  • Wide-rule loose-leaf paper
  • Spiral notebooks, wide-rule
  • 2″ & 3″ three-ring binders
  • Pocket folders
  • Tissues
  • Paper towels
  • Wet wipes (not Clorox wipes)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Colored pencils
  • Markers
  • Highlighters
  • Pens, black, blue and red ballpoint
  • Pencils, including the fat primary pencils for new writers
  • Index cards
  • Composition notebooks, regular and primary
  • Protractors
  • Post-It notes
  • Book covers
  • Scissors, safety and adult
  • Backpacks and messenger bags

    April showers bring May flowers, but this April baby shower brings blessings for local families in need! Help Hannah’s Treasure Chest shower new babies in the local area with all they need for a good start in life. Donated items will be organized into a layette for the new baby as part of the family’s requested items. Our goal is to collect 35 diaper bags and all the items to fill them.

    ]]>     Our Blankets & Bears program provides handmade bears and soft, new crib quilts for the babies we serve.

    Area sewing groups and other community groups collaborate to cut out, sew, stuff and finish the bears. Others cut out and finish summer-weight and winter-weight quilts and receiving blankets.

    Participating groups include:

    Hannah’s Treasure Chest welcomes donations of fabric, especially flannel and microfleece, to make the blankets and bears. We are also in need of volunteers to cut out, sew, stuff and finish bears.

    ]]>     Update on the IKEA USA Life Improvement Project: IKEA’s Life Improvement Project website experienced technical issues during the contest, and votes were not counted correctly. To ensure fairness to all charities, they have decided to re-open the polls for two weeks for a re-voting blitz starting March 25 until April 8. Winners will be announced on April 10.

    Though it is a disappointing situation, we hope you will rally for Hannah’s Treasure Chest and help us bring home the prize when the polls reopen on March 25! :)

    You can help us win the prize of $10,000 in IKEA products by voting once per day from March 25 to April 8, using any of your emails at http://www.thelifeimprovementproject.com/beyondhome. Choose “Click for a Cause”, then find the West Chester, OH store in the list. Click the box next to Hannah’s Treasure Chest, then enter your email and the code at the bottom of the page. To make an even bigger impact, ask your friends and family to vote daily, too – even those who live out of state.

    Winning this grant will fully supply our Beds 4 Babies program with cribs and mattresses for 2013 and beyond. This program helps low-income families to provide a warm, safe place for their infants to sleep. Currently, we have a waiting list of over 23 families needing cribs for their children.

    We’d like to wipe out that waiting list. Your vote can make it happen.
